When God Uses Therapy Too

The Conversation I Didn’t Want to Have

Whew, sis…

It’s been about eight months since I talked to my therapist.

Not because I didn’t need to.

If I’m being honest, I was avoiding the conversation.

Sometimes we avoid the very people who hold us accountable because deep down, we already know what they’re going to say.

Yesterday, we finally talked.

And let me tell you… she was on me. 😂

The topic?

Self-care.

She reminded me of something I’ve been neglecting for a long time.

You can’t pour into everyone else while your own cup is empty.

That one hit me.

I’ve been so focused on work, ministry, school, raising a teenager, and managing a chronic illness that somewhere along the way, I convinced myself that taking care of me could wait.

But the truth is…

It can’t.

I’ve learned that self-care isn’t selfish.

It’s stewardship.

God entrusted me with this body, this mind, and this heart. If I don’t take care of them, how can I fully walk in the purpose He’s called me to?

Becoming HER isn’t just about growing spiritually.

It’s also about learning to rest without guilt, asking for help when you need it, going to therapy when your heart is heavy, and giving yourself permission to heal.

So today, I’m choosing to stop avoiding the hard conversations.

I’m choosing to take care of me, too.

Because the woman I’m becoming understands that she can’t keep running on empty.

Sis, don’t neglect yourself while you’re busy taking care of everyone else.

You matter too. 💜
